Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels

Since the early 20th century, petroleum has fueled the transportation sector in the United States. Today, for many states petroleum represents the number one source of energy demand, greenhouse gas emissions, and billions of dollars spent annually on fuel imports. As alternative fuel vehicle technology has improved and prices have dropped, state governments have worked to diversify their transportation sector, increasing the number of alternative fuels vehicles on the road, ensuring fueling infrastructure is widely available, and supporting industries like dealerships, maintenance shops, and emergency responders.
