NASEO and the National Governors Association (NGA) are hosting a States Transmission Summit. This 2-day workshop that will convene state and territory policy leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities for state leadership on electricity transmission expansion. The objectives of this convening will be to provide a foundational understanding of the nation’s transmission landscape and create a venue for Governor's Office and State Energy Office staff to explore the breadth of issues surrounding transmission planning. This event will:
- Provide state and territory leaders with an understanding of the nation’s transmission system and the role it plays in resilience, reliability, clean energy deployment, economic development, and national security;
- Explore the roles and responsibilities of state policy leaders as they relate to those of regulators, regional transmission operators, the private sector, and federal partners;
- Identify solutions to the challenges faced by state leaders and the range of policy, regulatory, and programmatic solutions that Governors and state energy leaders can implement to overcome those challenges, such as system planning, cost allocation, stakeholder engagement, and more;
- Understand technical assistance needs to further support state and territory leaders and foster more productive transmission planning, permitting, and project deployment.
