On Thursday, March 25, 2021, eleven Senators sent a bipartisan letter to newly-confirmed Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm expressing support for the Department’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER). The letter highlighted CESER’s unique role and noted that the impetus for its creation in 2018 has only become more critical. As the office with deliberate responsibility for energy sector security, including cybersecurity and energy emergency response, CESER must be enabled to fulfill its mission. CESER works closely with NASEO to support State Energy Office responsibilities as they pertain to energy emergency planning, response, mitigation, and recovery. CESER’s role in working cooperatively with states and the energy industry to prepare for and respond to physical and cyber-related energy emergencies is essential to protecting lives and livelihoods across the nation.
