The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) opened the fourth round of its Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Carbon Challenge, which will award up to $15 million to advance decarbonization of large C&I facilities and operations. Individual awards, in the $500,000 to $5 million range, will support energy saving and carbon reduction projects, which can include beneficial electrification, carbon capture, energy efficiency improvements, low-carbon fuels, renewable energy, and battery storage, among other technologies and approaches. Large C&I firms, including institutional organizations (e.g., state and local government, wastewater facilities, health care, K-12 schools, higher education, and non-profits), with 12-month average electricity demand of at least 3 MW (at one or aggregated multiple sites in New York) are eligible to apply.
The C&I Carbon Challenge is part of Round XII of Governor Kathy Hochul’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative that combines programs across 10 state agencies to provide grant and tax-credit funding for projects that address regional economic development needs, including workforce development, across the state.
