On July 14, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) announced $2.54 billion for carbon capture demonstration projects and carbon dioxide transport and engineering. The Program focuses on integrated carbon capture, transport, and storage technologies and related infrastructure that can be utilized by fossil energy plants and industrial sites (such as cement or steel facilities). Funds can address technical, environmental, permitting, and financing challenges along with incorporating the principles of Justice40 and community engagement. More information on the program and potential application requirements can be found in the Notice of Intent here. DOE also released two new tools: a Carbon Matchmaker Tool that will provide more details on carbon management funding opportunities and a Carbon Management Interactive Diagram specifically focused on IIJA and other DOE funding.
