The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Energy Program Office recently launched the “Electrifying Truck Fleets for Cleaner Air in our Communities,” a Driving PA Forward initiative to improve air quality and support fleet electrification. A total of $12.7 million is available for local governments, businesses, and nonprofits to replace at least five diesel trucks with electric trucks. Recipients can use the funding to replace utility, garbage, recycling, and delivery trucks and purchase charging infrastructure. Projects serving environmental justice areas, high traffic density areas, and financially distressed municipalities will be prioritized for funding. In addition, DEP will cover 100 percent of the project costs for financially distressed municipalities as defined by Act 47. According to DEP Acting Secretary Ramez Ziadeh, “Our newest Driving PA Forward initiative aims to support transformational scale electrification of local trucks to improve air quality in communities with some of the highest air pollution levels in Pennsylvania.” For more information on the electrifying trucks program please visit: The Driving PA Forward website.
