On August 17, 2023, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced nearly $15 million in awards for four long duration energy storage demonstration projects. An additional $8.15 million in funding was announced to support innovative long duration energy storage solutions, devices, software, controls, and other complimentary technologies yet to be commercialized. These awards are funded through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Renewable Optimization and Energy Storage Innovation Program, which is an initiative through the New York Clean Energy Fund.

According to NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen Harris, "…the energy storage technologies being brought to bear by this program are ensuring New Yorkers will have access to an electric grid powered by clean renewable energy and peace of mind that it’s backed by ample storage capacity with safeguards paramount.”
