On March 6, 2026, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) announced the launch of a six-month effort to develop Missouri’s next State Energy Plan in partnership with Guidehouse. The new plan will serve as a roadmap to meet Missouri’s growing energy needs, reduce reliance on imported electricity, and support economic growth. It will establish near- and long-term strategies to enhance reliability, affordability, and resilience while positioning Missouri to capitalize on emerging energy-related investment opportunities.
MoDNR will incorporate new modeling, data, and stakeholder input to reflect Missouri’s evolving energy priorities in the plan. The plan will specifically consider how rapid load growth from data centers and manufacturing onshoring can be managed to support grid reliability while maximizing economic benefits for local communities.
MoDNR and Guidehouse will develop policy recommendations to guide state leaders, utilities, and local governments as they plan future energy investments and initiatives. The State Energy Plan will serve as a strategic roadmap to meet Missouri’s evolving energy needs and position the state to capture emerging energy-related economic opportunities.
